McDonough is an unincorporated hamlet in the town of Chenango, New York. Although it is not its own municipality, it does have a local political presence. The Town of Chenango Board of Supervisors consists of seven members who are elected by the citizens to represent different wards within the town. The board meets regularly to discuss decisions for the future of the community and make sure that all citizens’ needs are being met. The board also appoints members to serve on various committees and commissions that play important roles in keeping McDonough running smoothly. Additionally, there are several local organizations that work to promote civic engagement among McDonough's citizens such as the McDonough Community Center and the McDonough Historical Association. These organizations put on a variety of events throughout the year to help bring people together and keep them informed about what is happening in their community.
